December 2002    OTTAWA — Natural Resources Canada Minister Herb Dhaliwal, Mexican Energy Secretary Ernesto Martens and U.S. Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham today released the report North America — Regulation of International Electricity Trade. This is the third report of the North American Energy Working Group, a group of senior energy officials from Canada, the United States and Mexico.


November 2002  Phnom Penh (Cambodia), November 27, 2002The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and Natural Resources Canada’s Canada Centre for Remote Sensing (CCRS) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Mekong River Commission (MRC) that will help Canadian companies working in the environmental and geometric fields access new markets.

June 2002  OTTAWA - Joseph M. MacMullen has been appointed Chairperson of the Cape Breton Development Corporation (Devco) for a two-year period effective July 4, 2002. The Honourable Herb Dhaliwal, Minister of Natural Resources Canada, announced the appointment today.

May 2002 OTTAWA — The Honourable Herb Dhaliwal, Minister of Natural Resources Canada, today introduced an amendment to modify a subsection of the Nuclear Safety and Control Act for Parliament's consideration. The amendment is administrative in nature and will clarify a point concerning site remediation obligations that has had the consequence of discouraging private sector lending to companies that own and operate nuclear facilities.


April 2002  KITCHENER — Homebuyers in the Kitchener–Waterloo region will soon be able to generate electricity from their rooftops with innovative solar energy technology. Karen Redman, Member of Parliament for Kitchener Centre and Parliamentary Secretary to the Environment Minister David Anderson, today announced that the Government of Canada is contributing $1,025,000 to a project to design and construct houses with solar energy systems in the region.

March 2002 TORONTO - Joint venture partners, Toronto Hydro Energy Services Inc. and the Toronto Renewable Energy Co-operative (TREC), have selected a manufacturer for the first wind turbine in Toronto, to be located on the waterfront at Exhibition Place. The successful supplier is Lagerwey Windturbine International B.V., a Dutch-based manufacturer. The contract with Lagerwey is worth approximately $1.2 million.

February 2002  OTTAWA — Companies in one of Canada's fastest growing industries are getting a helping hand to bring their ideas to market. Maurizio Bevilacqua, Secretary of State (Science, Research and Development), on behalf of Herb Dhaliwal, Minister of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), officially opened the Innovation Acceleration Centre today to match government scientists and researchers together with representatives of the geomatics and geoscience industry.

January 2002  OTTAWA — Natural Resources Minister Herb Dhaliwal announced today that he and U.S. Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham will host a meeting of G8 energy ministers in Detroit, Michigan, on May 2-3, 2002. The meeting will provide a forum for ministers from eight democratic nations to discuss key issues related to the world energy situation and policies to promote sustainable energy development.
